We were devastated when Geoff Medland, one of our most valued volunteers, passed away very suddenly on the 1st January 2020.
Geoff joined Derbyshire Blood Bikes in June 2016 to help out with call handling and controller duty. He rapidly became a very trusted member of the team, and even found the opportunity to do runs in the car, supporting both Prostate Sample collections and equipment transfers in one of our cars.
Over his four years with DBB, he saw the growth in demand from the NHS go from around 600 calls in 2016 to 2800 in 2019. He dealt with the damands in a calm, measured style and he always gave a reassuring response to our NHS clients.
Geoff was a former project engineer with Rolls Royce Plc and was an active member of his local PROBUS Group. He was also an enthusiast for Jaguar motor cars, and was the treasurer for the regional owners group.
We thank Geoff Medland for his unstinting service with Derbyshire Blood Bikes.
We were honoured to to provide a motorcycle escort with 5 Derbyshire Blood Bikes for Geoff’s final journey. We were equally humbled that Geoff’s family and friends raised a total of £2039 for Derbyshire Blood Bikes. We have agreed that the next new BMW blood bike will be dedicated in memory of Geoff Medland.
