Jamie Henshaw was one of our many local supporters from Ilkeston. He was diagnosed with cancer a little over 2 years ago and was soon a frequent visitor to the Royal Derby Hospital. It was on one of these visits he found our awareness display and decided to become a fundraiser and was soon getting the regulars at his local, The New Inn on Bath Street, involved in raffles and darts competitions. It was a proud moment last year when he was able to present DBB with his first fundraising efforts.
However, Jamie lost his battle with cancer and passed away in April 2018. DBB were proud to form part of Jamies’s motorcycle ‘guard of honour’ during his final journey, along with many of his friends and family.
The Henshaw family, mainly Lisa, Jamie’s wife and Emma, his sister, soon decided to continue Jamie’s passion for fundraising and pledged to raise enough money for a new, fully-equipped blood bike to carry Jamie’s name.
Lisa, along with many friends at the New Inn have continue their events and have others planned, including a ‘Dart-o-thon’ and a golf day, including an incredibly difficult bar-challenge involving a lemon. You’ll have to pop into the New Inn to find out! Lisa and many of their friends attended the PIL Rally at Weston on Trent and rally-goers were very generous to the cause. Emma and her partner Tony will be riding our Solstice Challenge on the 23rd/24th June, and they’re already rapidly raising funds through their page Ride on Jamie.
It’s just a few weeks since Jamie was laid to rest, but the family have already reached around £5,000 and are well on their way to reaching their target.
Don’t forget, donating through BT.MyDonate will attract gift aid. That means for every pound donated, the government will add 25p.
